Representatives from the AIDS Taskforce will soon depart to the United States Conference on AIDS in Hollywood, FL. We'll be collecting information on the latest HIV/AIDS research, treatment and prevention issues, as well as updates on the most recent government responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
While at the conference, we will be posting updates and highlights. We welcome questions that you may have on the conference, or on HIV/AIDS issues that we might be able to answer for you while interacting with many of the nation's leading service providers and advocates.
Stay posted for blog updates. We look forward to hearing from you!

  • Hey Taskforce people at the AIDS conference. The BIcc members will be looking here for information on other programs for girls and boys to keep them safe from hiv. Can you find out if there are any programs for other gay kids like ours?

  • I would be interested to know what kind of research, development, or funding (public or private) is being put into microbicides. Are they at the stage of being tested for use of preventing hiv and/or stds?

  • I'm particularly interested in whether you can gather an evidence, or connect with anyone whose been successful, in developing effective interventions for public sex environments (including bathhouses) and internet sites. Who's doing the best work in these areas?

  • Greer and I have arrived in sunny Florida. We are excited that we have arrived a day early so we can get a head start on registration for the conference. I am very excited to hear many of the speakers scheduled, especially Magic Johnson, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Ryan White's mother. We will keep you posted as we began to attend all of the plenaries and sessions. We will try to answer all of your questions. Talk to you soon!! Don.

  • We'll definately get info on interventions that have been successful in public sex environments. We have also had requests for info re: interventions that have been successful with commercial sex workers and will seek info on who's doing work in that area.

BICC: So glad to see your questions! There are many sessions on youth prgrams and interventions and I am really looking forward to learning more about HIV/AIDS prevention efforts with youth populations similar to BICC youth. And BICC ladies: of course we'll be seeking information on prevention programming for young women. Check back often for more information and updates once the conference begins!

  • Excited and Overwhelmed

As the conference continues I have begun to realize that working in the HIV/AIDS feild will give me the opportunity to continue to learn as well as share that education with others. The USCA has turned into one of the most educational and overwhelming experiences for me seeing that it is my first conference. By the end of the conference I will be better equipped to serve my current clients as well as those clients I will come in contact with in the future. This experience has allowed me the opportunity to meet many care providers from all over and share in their experiences in this work. I am looking forward to the rest of the conference and the opportunity to share those experiences with everyone.
